Poker is a card game where you bet against other players and aim to make the best 5-card hand using your own two cards plus five community cards. The game simulates real life – you have to commit resources before you know the outcome of the situation. As the cards are dealt, you gain more information but the situation remains uncertain until all the cards have been revealed at the end of the round.

Each player buys in with a number of chips, and you must always be aware of the total amount of money that is being bet on each round. The chip values are usually stated on the table: a white chip is worth one unit of ante or bet, a blue chip is worth 10 whites, and so on. A supply of at least 200 chips is recommended for a game with seven or more players.

KILL ALL LOSING HANDs BEFORE YOU PUSH THE POT

If you do not kill a losing hand before pushing the pot, other players might call your bet on the next street with their weak hands and ruin your bluffing strategy. Also, if you leave your losing hand face up on the table when you push the pot, other players might not notice that it’s yours and will assume that you have a strong hand. Therefore, it is advisable to kill your losing hand by putting it into the muck. Otherwise, you might lose a lot of money in the long run.
